3 Simple Steps to Boost Your Chances at Conception

Ahhhh! The perfectly wonderful sweet smell of a new baby.

Now that my toddler (only to everyone else. He’s still my baby!) has become a ball of energy with hair, he has lost that delicious eau de baby. If I can catch him long enough to even get a whiff, I get a nose full of sweat and dirt.

After craving the sweet scent of a baby for what seemed like forever (along with cuddles, dimples, and big toothless smiles) I FINALLY stared down at those coveted double pink lines!

Because I have endometriosis, this pregnancy took some real effort and patience (something my toddler helps me practice every 5 minutes!).

We were unknowingly hindering out chances of conceiving and after some research, made the changes that led to our success story, and will hopefully lead to yours, too!

Diet

Little did I know, we were not only eating a diet that didn’t help with fertility, but some of the foods we were eating were actually working against us. Here are a couple things you can start adding to your diet and something that might need to stay out of your grocery basket.

Caffeine

Women who are trying to get pregnant should limit their caffeine intake because it can increase the amount of time it takes to conceive by impacting the quality of the developing egg. That egg needs to be in tip-top shape!

Men on the other hand, can actually benefit from a little caffeine before intercourse because it can increase sperm swimming speed (say that 5 times fast!).

Foods Rich in Folic Acid

Spinach, asparagus, kale, black eyed peas…which one of these is not made better with bacon? The correct answer is D. None of the above. So if that’s how you get your husband to eat them, then have at it, girl!

Lots of folic acid in a man’s diet can lower the rate of abnormal chromosomes in sperm (which can cause miscarriages or birth defects).

Women also need plenty of folic acid to not only aid in fertility, but also help baby’s brain development once they become pregnant.

Frequency

Somewhere, somehow, someway there’s a formula for the exact amount of times you should have intercourse to conceive.

It’s possible to have too little sex, and believe it or not, it’s possible to have too MUCH sex while working towards conception. Where’s the happy medium?!

Going three or more days without baby-making in order to “build” sperm could lead you to miss your fertile window. On the other hand, intercourse several times a day could decrease sperm potency and honestly, who even has time for that?

Meeting in the middle at once every day, or every other day, will give you the best odds of conceiving.

Lubricant

Since all this baby-making requires frequent intercourse, it may be time to invest in a good lubricant. But not just any lubricant because after months of using the traditional stuff with no success, I found out that it can actually kill sperm.
