Healthy and snacks are two words that sometimes don’t mix together when you have kids. But, don’t despair, it is possible to give your kids healthy school snacks that they will actually eat. Many times, it’s just a matter of presentation. Kids are just like us with their meals; if it doesn’t look good, they’re not going to eat it. At times, you may even have to hide the healthy factor. When some kids hear that word, their mouths automatically shut!
So, I searched the web high and low to find these 8 creative healthy school snacks that your kids may actually eat!
Creative Healthy School Snacks #1: Cheese Stick Octopus
Cheese is a great snack. It’s filled with calcium which is good for the bones. But, a regular cheese stick is boring. Instead of just tearing open the wrapper, take the string cheese and cut in half. Then tear off eight pieces so they look like octopus legs. Stand it up in plate and stick on two raisins for eyes and you have a fun to eat octopus!
Creative Healthy School Snacks #2: Strawberry Flower
Can’t get kids to eat fruit? Pack their lunch with a strawberry flower. Cut the strawberries for the flower petals. Then fill the middle with blueberries. Use a celery stick for the stem and you get your vegetable in too. Presto! You have one of the best looking school snacks around.
Creative Healthy School Snacks #3: Fruit on a Stick
If the strawberry flower doesn’t work, try putting a variety of fruit on a stick. For some reason, any food is more fun when it’s on a stick. You can pack this in a lunch box with a cooler or save it for an after school snack.
Creative Healthy School Snacks #4: Banana Bus
I saw this one online and it made me smile. What a great way to give your child a boring old banana to eat!You basically just make the banana a bus and cut out some windows. This is a great way for kids to get their potassium.
Creative Healthy School Snacks #5: Tuna Canoes
Tuna is one of those foods that is packed with protein and goodness. The only thing is that it doesn’t always look that appetizing. But if you put it in a canoe it looks a lot better! Fill celery halves with tuna and top them with some peas if you like. It makes tuna look a lot better than just plopping it on some bread.
Creative Healthy School Snacks #6: Peanut Butter & Jelly on a Mini-Bagel
This is one of the easiest school snacks. Just trade in your wheat or white bread for the mini-bagel of your choice. This is just an example of a new twist on an old favorite.
Creative Healthy School Snacks #7: Cinnamon Apple Snack
For this one you just need to cut up on apple like you usually would. Now add a little plain yogurt with cinnamon on top in a side container. Now your child can just dip his apple in his cinnamon-yogurt dip.
Creative Healthy School Snacks #8: Apple Smiles
When I first saw this one, it kind of creeped me out, but it’s still one of the coolest school snacks. For this one, you cut apple slices. Then you put some peanut butter. Then take some mini-marshmallows to make teeth. Once you do this you can attach the two ends to make a mouth. Then you have your apple smile.
These are just some ideas. You may be able to come up with your own and cater them to your child’s likes. Good luck!
